Short Story #1

It was to heavy to be a knife. He could smell the metallic odor coming from the bag. He went to open the back and the man snatched the bag from him. "No looking, if you want to see inside then you will have to buy it." Evret wanted to know what was in the bag, he didn't know why but he had a feeling that he had to have whatever was in it. The man began to walk away and Evret grabbed him by the arm and pulled out a wad of cash. He handed it to him in exchange for the bag. He could feel something pulling at his presence as if to get his attention. It was whatever was in the bag, it wanted him to see what it was, to feel and hold it in his hands. He went to grab the foreign object from the bag and felt a sudden burning sensation. He instantly dropped it back into the bag. Whatever it was it was freezing. It sent chills all the way up his spine and down his body. He had never felt anything that was this cold. He turned the bag inside out and held the object in the hand protected by the bag. It was a cube made of some shadow metal or something like it. The cube was pitch black, there was no reflection to be seen. He looked into the cube and it was as if he was looking into a storm. There were dark clouds swirling from inside of the cube. He could feel the temperature around him begin to fall. It had dropped a substantial amount since he had brought the cube out of its bag. He began to feel his eyes get heavy and he started to feel drowsy. It was as if the cube was draining the life out of the immediate area around it. Evret fell to the ground with the cube still in his hand. The thing had pulled him towards him to suck the life out of him. All that remained of Evret was the body that used to be a home to the warm soul he once contained.

  1. Good, creative story. I like "the cube" idea. The imagery made it feel more real. It actually gave me chills.
